Not in my backyard

The data tells us that the era of renewable energy is already here. And yet, a large part of public opinion is still immersed in a different narrative. The debate often feels split into opposing camps: those who strongly support the transition and those who deeply oppose it.

Why?

Cognitive psychology suggests that we tend to fear immediate losses—such as changes to familiar landscapes or our everyday routines—more than uncertain future gains. This tendency is known as the status quo bias.
